Begun in 2019 and ongoing, The Emerging is a series of paintings and sculptures exploring women's visibility and their movement from the private sphere into public space. In the paintings, black acrylic forms accumulate across natural linen canvas, creating a landscape of peaks, valleys and overlapping contours. Initially, the forms appear geological, suggesting mountains rising from the earth. Gradually, the landscape reveals another identity: a gathering of bent legs, fragments of bodies surfacing from beneath the ground.

The series began in response to the changing conditions governing women's presence in public spaces in Saudi Arabia, but its concerns extend across geographical and cultural boundaries. Women everywhere continue to negotiate their right to occupy public space, to move freely and to feel safe within it. The simple act of walking alone through a city without fear remains an aspiration for many.

The title refers to a process rather than a completed arrival. Like a shifting terrain that gradually discloses what lies beneath its surface, the bodies emerge partially and collectively, their movement unresolved. The Emerging considers what it means to claim space when the conditions of belonging are still being negotiated, and imagines a world in which women's presence requires neither permission nor protection as an exception, but is accepted as an ordinary and fundamental freedom.
