Overview
"Manal AlDowayan’s installation of prayer beads is her second participatory project with the women of Saudi Arabia. The artist called out to women across the Kingdom to join her in creating a piece that addresses the Saudi custom of not uttering a woman’s name. The individual beads carry the names of the women that took part, written in their own hand and was a response to AlDowayan’s powerful callout: “Our names will be preserved, and we will not allow the Saudi woman’s name to be erased, replaced, nor become a source of shame.” showing at Cuadro Fine Art Gallery in Dubai."
