Black Gold Museum - Permanent Exhibition: King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center - Riyadh
Manal AlDowayan’s artworks I Am a Petroleum Engineer and If I Forget You Don’t Forget Me are currently on view as part of the permanent collection at the Black Gold Museum.
Established in partnership with the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center and housed within an iconic building designed by Zaha Hadid, the museum explores the relationship between oil, memory, identity, and societal transformation through contemporary art.
As the first institution of its kind to examine oil through an artistic and humanistic lens, the museum brings together over 350 works by Saudi and international artists, reflecting on how “black gold” has shaped economies, landscapes, and collective imagination. Within this context, AlDowayan’s works engage with themes of labor, history, and personal narratives, offering intimate reflections on the cultural and emotional dimensions of the petroleum era.
